The International 2026 Final: Team Spirit’s Third Aegis

The last series of The International 2026 went to a fifth game and a sixty-four-minute decider before Team Spirit beat TEAM VISION 3-2 in Shanghai. That is Spirit’s third Aegis of Champions. Every other team in Dota 2 has at most one.

Three operators from our main rankings that carry a sportsbook next to the casino on one account. All three are offshore, none are licensed by iGaming Ontario, and each review says so.

What Happened in the Grand Final

The final was played on Sunday, August 23, at the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. TEAM VISION dragged it to a fifth map and led early in that game. Spirit turned it around and closed the series 3-2 in a game that ran past the hour.

Spirit had won The International in 2021 and 2023. Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk and Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov played on all three winning rosters, so they are the first Dota 2 players with three Aegises. Until Sunday, no organisation had more than two.

How Both Teams Got There

VISION were the better side for most of the event. They went 4-0 through the Swiss group stage, held the top seed, and had already beaten Spirit 2-1 in the upper bracket. The grand final was a rematch, not a first meeting.

Losing that upper bracket series put Spirit in the lower bracket, where every game is an elimination game. They won all of them, finishing with a sweep of Team Yandex to reach the final. That is the longer road: the lower bracket team plays more series to get there, though the final itself starts at 0-0 either way.

The Prize Pool, and Why It Is Not $40 Million Any More

TI 2026 paid out about $3.33 million. Spirit’s share was $1.4 million. Sixteen teams played from August 13 to 23, the Swiss stage over the first four days and the main event across the closing weekend.

Put that next to the number people remember. The International 2021 had a prize pool just over $40 million, the largest in esports, built from Battle Pass sales with a quarter of what players spent going into the pool. Valve dropped that model after 2022. The tournament now starts from a $1.6 million base and grows with in-game supporter purchases, which is how 2026 got from $1.6 million to $3.33 million.

Betting on a Dota Final From Canada

Single-event sports betting has been legal in Canada since August 2021, when Bill C-218 removed the parlay-only rule. Esports sit inside the same framework as hockey.

Ontario has the only regulated commercial online market. Operators there register with the AGCO and work under iGaming Ontario, the Registrar’s Standards cover esports the way they cover any other event, and the minimum age is 19. Outside Ontario the legal online route is the provincial lottery platform. Everything else is an offshore book taking Canadian accounts without a provincial licence.

That difference matters more than the odds. Several operators we review run a sportsbook and a casino off one wallet, which suits anyone who wants a bet on a Bo5 and some slots between games: CrazyTower, TikiTaka and Cazeus all do. None of them are iGaming Ontario licensees, and our reviews say so on the page. What we test is the part that decides whether you see the money: withdrawal ceilings, how long a payout takes in practice, and what the bonus terms do to a balance before it can move. The high-roller thresholds work the same way on the sportsbook side as they do in the casino.

The Ticket Joke

The comic on this page is the other half of The International. For most of the year, telling someone you have tickets to it gets you asked which airport. It has been a Dota tournament since 2011 and it still sounds like a flight.

Straight Answers on TI 2026

Team Spirit, 3-2 over TEAM VISION in the grand final in Shanghai on August 23, 2026. It was their third title after 2021 and 2023.

3-2 to Team Spirit in a best-of-five. The fifth game ran about 64 minutes, and Spirit won it after falling behind early.

About $3.33 million across 16 teams, with $1.4 million for the winner. It starts from a $1.6 million base and grows through in-game supporter purchases.

The 2021 pool came from Battle Pass sales, with 25% of what players spent going into it. Valve ended that model after 2022 and moved to a fixed base plus a smaller in-game contribution.

Yes. Single-event betting has been legal since August 2021. In Ontario that means an AGCO-registered site under iGaming Ontario, 19 and over. In other provinces it means the provincial lottery platform, with offshore books operating outside provincial licensing.
